Senior AI Engineer

Job Description

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will lead the design, development, and deployment of reinforcement learning solutions that optimize industrial operations at scale. You’ll tackle complex engineering challenges, building AI that moves beyond experimentation into reliable capabilities that deliver measurable value for customers every day.

As a senior member of the AI team, you will help shape our technical direction, influence architectural decisions, and build the foundation of our next-generation AI platform. Working closely with engineers, domain experts, and customers, you’ll transform complex operational challenges into scalable, high-impact solutions. Roles and Responsibilities: 

  • Design, build, and deploy production-grade reinforcement learning (RL) solutions, including custom algorithms, training pipelines, simulation environments, evaluation frameworks, and policy optimization across model-based, offline, online, and hybrid AI-control approaches.
  • Lead the architecture and evolution of scalable AI platforms, establishing engineering standards, deployment pipelines, monitoring, reusable frameworks, and mentoring engineers to deliver reliable production AI.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop intermediate and junior AI developers by providing technical direction, code and design reviews, implementation guidance, and coaching to improve engineering quality, delivery speed, and ownership across the AI team.
  • Translate complex industrial problems into deployable AI solutions by combining learningbased, physics-based, and rules-based approaches while continuously optimizing performance using operational and customer feedback.
  • Own AI reliability through validation, reproducibility, monitoring, benchmarking, and continuous model improvement to ensure safe, production-ready deployments.
  • Partner with engineering teams, domain experts, and customers to shape product direction, support deployments, and maximize business impact.

Education

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Robotics, Controls Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Equivalent industry experience will also be considered.

Core Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience developing and deploying AI/ML solutions for complex applications. 3+ years of hands-on experience designing and implementing reinforcement learning solutions.
  • Deep understanding of reinforcement learning, including MDPs, reward design, policy optimization, exploration strategies, model-based RL, RLHF and offline/online learning.
  • Experience with optimization algorithms beyond RL, including constrained optimization, gradient-based and derivative-free optimization, Bayesian optimization, evolutionary algorithms, heuristic/metaheuristic methods, and multi-objective optimization for realworld operational decision-making.
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience with strong proficiency in Python.
  • Experience designing scalable AI platforms and production-quality software components.
  • Strong Python engineering skills with hands-on experience building custom RL algorithms, PyTorch/TensorFlow models, training pipelines, simulation environments, evaluation frameworks, and production deployment workflows.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering practices, including architecture design, testing, debugging, and performance optimization.
  • Experience working with industrial telemetry, IoT, or time-series data, including noisy sensor data, feature engineering, and AI optimization for physical systems.
  • Hands-on data engineering experience, including building reliable data pipelines, data validation workflows, feature stores or reusable datasets, and scalable data infrastructure to support training, evaluation, monitoring, and production AI systems.
  • Experience designing and improving AI developer experience and MLOps environments, including experiment tracking, model registries, reproducible training workflows, CI/CD for ML, automated evaluation, deployment pipelines, monitoring, and tooling that enables faster, reliable AI development across teams.
  • Experience building reliable AI systems through simulation, validation, benchmarking, monitoring, reusable components, and scalable production architectures.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to lead a team of engineers, collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Ability to raise the capability of the AI team through mentoring, structured technical guidance, constructive feedback, and hands-on support for intermediate and junior developers.
  • High adaptability and comfort working with globally distributed teams across North American, European, and APAC time zones.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with industrial process control, automation systems, robotics, autonomous systems, or digital twins.
  • Experience working with physics-based models or hybrid AI systems.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and workflow orchestration tools.
  • Experience with explainable AI techniques such as SHAP, perturbation analysis, or model interpretability approaches.
  • Experience with anomaly detection, predictive maintenance, or condition monitoring systems.
  • Familiarity with security and compliance frameworks such as SOC2, ISO27001, or ISO42001.

Certifications

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Specialist, Certified Kubernetes Administrator) are a plus
