Software Designer , Frontend (UX)

Job Description

Reporting to the product manager, we are seeking a mid-level, hands-on UX designer to create our next gen user interface for our industrial AI-native solution set.

Duties and responsibilities include

  •  Conduct field research in industrial environments to understand operator workflows, constraints, and safety considerations
  • Translate operational data (SCADA, IoT/OT, LIMS) into user-centered insights, personas (e.g., operator, plant manager, reliability engineer), and journey maps
  • Design intuitive interfaces for complex systems such as digital twins, ensuring clear representation of physical assets, processes, and system states
  • Define interaction models for real-time monitoring, control, and simulation (e.g., drill-down, progressive disclosure, anomaly highlighting)
  • Create wireframes and prototypes for control panels, and 2D/3D digital twin environments (e.g., piping networks, equipment layouts)
  • Design visualizations for time-series data, alarms, and predictive insights to support rapid decision-making
  • Ensure usability under operational stress (e.g., alarm floods, system anomalies, time-critical interventions)
  • Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, and control system experts to align UX with physical process behavior and AI outputs
  • Integrate AI/ML insights (e.g., anomaly detection, optimization recommendations, agents) into explainable and actionable user experiences
  • Design for human-in-the-loop AI collaboration for control models (monitoring, override, governance of autonomous systems)
  • Develop and maintain design systems tailored to industrial contexts (e.g., status color standards, alarm hierarchies, ISA-18.2 alignment)
  • Validate designs through usability testing with operators and domain experts
  • Optimize interfaces for multiple environments (control rooms, mobile devices in the field, remote operations centers)
  • Ensure compliance with safety, reliability, and regulatory requirements in UX decisions
  • Continuously improve experience using operational data, user feedback, and system performance metrics

What we are looking for

  • Core Requirement

    • 3–5 years of experience in UX design, preferably with complex, data-intensive applications (industrial, IoT, or enterprise systems)
    • Demonstrated experience designing dashboards, control systems, or data visualization interfaces (e.g., time-series, alarms, system states)
    • Proficiency in design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD)
    • Ability to create wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and interactive prototypes for complex workflows
    • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and usability best practices
    • Experience translating technical requirements (e.g., IoT/OT data, APIs, system constraints) into intuitive user experiences
    • Familiarity with industrial data concepts (SCADA systems, telemetry, asset hierarchies, alarms)
    • Basic understanding of data visualization principles for real-time and historical data
    • Experience collaborating cross-functionally with engineers, product managers, and data scientists
    • Ability to incorporate AI/ML outputs (e.g., predictions, anomaly alerts) into clear, actionable UI components
    • Knowledge of accessibility standards and designing for high-stakes or safety-critical environments
    • Experience conducting usability testing and iterating based on feedback and analytics
    • Strong communication skills to present design decisions and rationale to technical and non-technical stakeholders
    • Ability to balance usability with business goals, system constraints, and operational realities
  • Secondary Requirements

    • Exposure to AI & digital twin platforms and 3D visualization
    • Experience with Omniverse and Universal Screen Description
    • 1+ years in Django framework environment
    • Familiarity with industrial UX standards (e.g., alarm management principles such as IEC 62682, & ISA-18.2)
    • 1+ year developing front-end technologies (React, JavaScript or TypeScript)
    • Experience designing for responsive environments (control room screens, tablets, field devices)
