Automation Engineer
Job Description
You will support development and deployment projects by integrating control systems in water and wastewater treatment plants with our AI control, prediction and optimization software. The role involves reviewing controls systems architecture, improving PLC code, modifying or developing SCADA systems, and integrating with our O&M and AI software. This role will be a great mix of instrumentation and controls and hands-on work with our software development data science and application engineering team members.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Design of control systems architecture for projects
- Develop control systems design documentation including network topology diagram, functional descriptions, state transition diagrams, logic diagrams etc. when required
- Develop, test and commission of PLC, PC-based control, HMI and SCADA systems for projects including code, graphics and interfaces when required
- Attend site with field or commissioning engineers to commission new plants
- Troubleshoot remotely and onsite instrumentation and control system issues, proposed solutions and undertake rectification works on approval
- Prepare test plans and operator manuals for control systems operation
- Training of internal and customer personnel on use of HMI and SCADA interfaces
- Work with software developers to customize plant data management
- Work with databases when required
- Work with teammates to discover greater efficiency in existing solutions
What we’re looking for
- Strong writing, presenting and listening skills with the ability to communicate complicated concepts to peers around the world
- At least 5 years in an automation and controls environment
- Bachelor’s Degree/Post Graduate Diploma/Professional Degree in Engineering: Mechatronics, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation & Control, Automation, Industrial, Computer Systems or related discipline
- Programming of PLC (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Schneider), HMI and SCADA systems
- Extensive experience in troubleshooting and working with PLC, HMI and SCADA technologies
- Experience with SQL databases particularly PostgreSQL
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Devicenet, MQTT
- Extensive exposure to computer networking
- Experience in commissioning, testing and site inspections of control systems
- Excellent analytical thinking, interpersonal/communication skills, writing and problem-solving capacities
- Reliable, well-organized and detail oriented
- Applicants must be willing to travel as and when required
- Ability to work in a high energy, start-up-based
- Strong communication skills to convey ideas and technical information effectively with team and
- Excellent customer orientation, willingness to deal with people, be flexible and be able to meet customer demands
- Curiosity and strong drive to improve status-quo while working in a semi-autonomous
Desirable skills
- Experience in water industry
- Experience with Inductive Automation’s Ignition platform being desirable
- Coding skills: Python, Golang, HTML, Javascript, time series DB
- Experience with IIoT technologies
