Singapore’s local government agency faced recurring flooding inremote areas due to heavy rainfall and the challenge of monitoring water levels in regions with thick vegetation. To tackle this, we deployed our advanced TOP RTU-67 (Remote Telemetry Units) to collect real-time data from water level andflow sensors. This data was transmitted via cellular networks to our TOP Clear cloud platform, enabling remote monitoring and instant alerts. Powered by solar energy, the RTUs ensured continuous, power-efficient, and maintenance-free operation, even in the most inaccessible locations.
The Challenge
The local drainage system, which was located in a remote area with dense foliage that hindered manual access, was susceptible to overflows during heavy rainfall. This resulted in flooding. Traditional monitoring methods required manual inspections, which were time-consuming and often ineffective in providing timely responses. Authorities struggled to predict and mitigate flood risks proactively.
In this case, the site was located in a forested area, where dense vegetation obstructs visual inspections and manual data collection. Additionally, power supply limitations in remote locations further impede continuous monitoring, making it challenging to maintain oversight of water levels.
The Solution
To overcome these challenges, we deployed TOP RTU-67’s equipped with water level sensors at the drainage system. The RTUs continuously collected and transmitted data to our cloud platform, where it was analyzed in real time. The system generated automatic alerts and notifications when water levels approached critical thresholds, allowing authorities to take immediate action.
To ensure uninterrupted operation, the RTUs were powered by a solar panel, providing a sustainable and power-efficient solution. The cloud-based dashboard provided authorities with an intuitive interface to monitor trends, analyze historical data, and make informed decisions for flood prevention.
The Benefits
- Real-Time Monitoring: Authorities gained 24/7 visibility into water levels across the drainage system, enabling proactive flood prevention.
- Instant Alerts & Notifications: Automated alarms allowed for quick response, reducing the risk of property damage and public safety hazards.
- Power Efficiency: The solar-powered RTU ensured uninterrupted operation without reliance on external power sources.
- Reduced Operational Costs: Our system eliminated the need for manual inspections, saving time and resources for the drainage authority.
- Improved Decision-Making: Historical data analysis helped identify patterns, enabling long-term infrastructure improvements to mitigate future flooding risks
